How CORONAVIRUS (nCov-19) has impacted my local community.
To those who don’t know yet which I greatly doubt, coronavirus are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and East respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). This virus is the new killer of humans. This all started in china and now it is all over with thousands of people being infected.
I am from Cameroon. Precisely leave in Taturu, Bamenda. Cameroon is a country located in western Africa. I heard of this virus like a dream and how it killed many. I knew the magic of drug creation will be done, but to my greatest surprise there has been no cure till date. Many have been infected and quarantine to self-fight the various and assistance giving by doctors and nurses to help the infected battle the disease.
I knew this virus will be controlled and it will not spread like a wild fire. But today the virus is in my country though not in my town yet, but it is here.
This virus has impacted my community in a very bad way. The community in which I leave in, children played out with other kids, fathers and mothers visited each other to share community ideas and to keep good relationships amongst them themselves. children carry out community services, community labor and even sports or games. With the coming of this virus all that has changed. I didn’t first realize it, but I do now. Parents telling their family members to stay away from other family members or even neighbors. No more handshakes in churches and even on the streets. No freer life style in the community. It is really bad. In my community now, you see everyone putting on face mask. The coming of this virus has diminished the community spirit.
In the business part, the virus has made business men limit travel. It may kill the transport sector. This is because, people turn to limit travel and stay home for fear of getting contaminated. Men and women buying food in bulk and storing for they don’t know when it will hit them or their own community or town. Jobs that where mostly done with hands are now limited as measure for preventing the virus includes washing of hands but yet it is no guarantee. The business sector in my community and in my town is not totally down yet. And I pray it doesn’t.
I haven’t witness yet, any government response in my community. All that the government has done is creating a greater awareness on how its citizens should maintain sanity and to take precautions as concerning the virus.
I am scared. I don’t know what awaits in the future. The schools are still functional. The churches are still functional. The market still operating. Transport sector still open. All this still running. But what if the virus attacks? What if the virus spreads in my town too and in my community to be precise? Will this mean I won’t see my friends and some family members? Will this mean I won’t move on the street anymore? Will this mean dead is near?
I fear, they fear, we fear. it is happening, it is here. We should all stay safe and hope our scientist find the cure while we take all precautions to make sure the virus doesn’t spread.
